Category: Accessible Games
Well, I used to use VIPMud but that sucked. I tried to use JMC, GMud and Monkeyterm and they didn't work. I currently use Mushclient and I love it! I haven't mudded in a long while, so I can't remember any muds people play. Are there any mudders out there? If there are, Post your favorite muds. Make sure to post the host and port number. P.S: I heard about alteraeon. Primarily when I ask about accessible muds, people say "Try alteraeon." I still don't know what all the fuss is about.
Honestly, i've never seen anything particularly special about alter, and many similar muds of that kind. they all feel and play the same.
I play mostly hell: after the end. aftertheend.org 7777
www.aftertheend.org for some documentation.
Its post epoc and cyberpunkish, but good.
Oh, if you choose to give it a go, when you first start type
@prefs blind is 1
this will make the game 99% access friendly
Thanks dude. I agree with you. Primarily almost all muds like alter play like a DnD game. Sure, I like them every once in a while, but those alter-like games are either hard to stick with or are too confusing. And they really do get old!
Alter bugged me due to the multiclass stuff you had to focus on. It became too much to focus on.
I have had a lot of fun with Materia Magica, great game and super blind friendly, they have a mode to shorten room descs so they aren't so verbose and over talkative. IT is fantasy and has a lot of races to play and is a lot of fun.
I don't have the log info at the moment though, sorry.
One I just started is the Discworld mud, which is blind friendly as well.
discworld.starturtle.net port 23.
It is fun and wacky, but just started it so still learning it myself.
Happy Mudding.
star conquest, is where I can be found lately, funnily enough, its the only mud I play right now, and I used to play alot at once.
I play a mud called the night. (www.the-night.com port 200).
Its a modern day mud. You can buy houses, cars, guns, (and I'm talking real guns and cars, not shitty fake ones. My character has a 2012 corvette convertible). You can get married, have kids, get a job, be a criminal, anything you can't do in the real world. No elves, no goblins, no magic, no weird names to remember. Its a lot of fun.
Oh, so it's like second life? I'll have to check it out. I've heard good things about aardwolf. Yet, I still have no idea what aardwolf
Hey hey, dude, the most accessible mud is, alter aeon! I think it is the most accessible. Also, I was playing relm of magic, but it wasn't accessible so much. But the people on relm of magic are very nice, and helpful people. Wish they could play alter aeon. By the way, I have a spammer flag in alter aeon right now. So if you wanna be friend with me, then type ignore spammers to ignore all spammers, then type unignore burak. Thanks, and hope to see you there! If you're already there, will you give your user name? Thanks!
Ok, dude. I'll check it out. I don't know how great it is, but ok.
I have heard good things about ArrdWulf too and tried it but it was a we bit confusing for me personally. Alter was fun for a bit but got way too confusing, on the upside, there are great game sounds if using Mush Client that make the game a load of fun, but stil the multiclass system is so annoying to me, gotta keep track of three different classes at a time.
Tell me about it. That thing's more confusing than confusion itself. But yeah, I'm still trying to find a good mud. I've even thought of making one, but I don't have a mainframe.
What kind of MUD are you looking for exactly? Maybe I can help. Materia Magica is good, huge and not overly confusing and super blind friendly and no multiclassing to start with.
Here's the info fort hat...
materiamagica.com port 4000
Well, I'll play anything. I'm a newbie in the mudding area. So I really will play anything.
If you want elves and swords and magic, I would suggest new worlds. I can't remember the url and port info off the top of my head. Its a basic story, with all the basic classes, religions, races, all of that. You can do a hell of a lot, and it is practically entirely accessible; even to the point that they have an entire channel for blind people only, and many of the player guides are blind themselves. You should check it out.
Ha, I keep meaning to try the night actually since I play a lot of muds. I don't remember the one for new worlds either but I plan to try that one out as well. As others have mentioned, alter is always an option as well. There is also one I play pretty frequently called star conquest: squidsoft.net port 7777. be warned though, this mud is roleplay enforced, so you have to rp in the environment that it is set in. There is also Miriani: toastsoft.net port 1234. Personally I don't play there anymore because I feel the mud has gone downhill for me but maybe you might like it. Both star conquest and miriani are space muds. I also used to play a star wars mud a lot. It was called sw mud. the host was swmud.org but I can't remember the port off the top of my head. It's one of the few star wars muds I recommend because you actually do pilot stuff in space and stuff on the ground so it isn't another star wars hack and slash like most of the others. Hope that helps.
Jess
Thanks, Jess. I'm gonna try SWMud. I figured out the port #. It's 6666. They had it on their main page. I'm gonna google new worlds and see if I can figure out what their url/port is.
Oh, and BTW, burak, my username is Zangarre. I'm still a newbie. Just yesterday I killed the carver shaman, recovered the sunlight staff, visited Sonja and took a visit around Vemarken. Dang, those portals are convenient!
I love the portals, just saying lol. If I see you around I'll holler at you, my newer character is shyla and my other one is delton, so either of those can try to help if they'r earound.
You can have multiple characters on AA?
Yes you can, I had two of them myself when I played Alter.
Yes you can.
Yes you can, but you cannot play with them at the same time.
That's cool! A lot of the muds out there don't allow it, but it's a good thing AA does.
P.S, I have some ideas for making a mud, but there are no accessible codebases. If you have one you like and use, post it on my thread for accessible windows codebases.
I'm really loving Star Conquest with VIP Mud and using the soundpack available for it, it is my all time favorite MUD now, and it is actually putting me on a normal sleep schedule again because I stay up until eleven almost every night playing it. Hee.
i'm on both SC and AA, so if you want someone to work with or hang out with i'll do what i can. Alter i have ratking and ratclaw, SC i'm Mike rat.
Cool. How accessible is SC?
sc has been partly made for the blind, they have modes in place to limit graphics and stuff screen readers struggle with
sc has to be my main mud out of everything I play.
I mainly stick with marriani some times go to SC, I would say look me up for marriani but I am headed out for the core of marriani's universe. So I will not bee around for about 2 or 4 years depending on if we actually come back from the core with out blowing up the ships were in.
Miriani addict, but like starfly up there, am ools for at least the next month. lol am on sc, but a friend is giving me the soundpack she uses. so blaah. lol. gabrielle rosewood on both. well once i get an SC story in my head.
miriani and sc are both rp muds, but people say miriani has turned into a hack and slash. i've stepped back from pilot life and am having too much dam fun rping anything me and my ic wife can come up with. rofl.
used to play alter, but once you beat the graveyard, and clear the road to pelem, it's all down hill cuz you don't really know where to go cuz you can do anything. i'd prefer a straight forward you do this or you need to do this.
I like a universal mud, something that let's you do anything. Definitely will check out SC, if I can find the url and port.
sc, squidsoft.net, port 7777
Well I'd say mush client is the best. As far as accessible muds go? I'd have to go with Alter Aeon. Alter Aeon has a low spam filter which when you start the game it asks if you want to disable it. They are really into maing the game work very well for the blind...
I for got to say, I am zeel ley on marriani, I would say look me up but no point unless you want to wait for 2 years or more. lol!!! I can wait to see the core of marriani, I am taking a crap load of pics to bring back.
hot dam. starfly have fun!
will be making a 50k trip july or august and that's gona be bout a year out and back combined lol.
alter makes me want to shoot it, yeah it has quests and stuff, but in alot of ways, its still bland.
I just started sc. it's got it's limits, and when you are on your 3rd try to submitt a profile you can get frustrated very fast. i, hate, nit pickers. but that being said, compaired to miriani, sc is better on the rp aspect, and much less drama, no stunning just cuz you feel like stunning someone lol. blaah both games have their good and bad points. so.
sadly I've written so may character profiles and bios for games, its like a second hand thing to me now. heh. I rarely get the redo status anymore, but writing a profile can be a bitch especially with some information.
thanks for the ools trip comment, when I get back from the core of marriani, I am just going to run diffs and mod missions, probly dig. Really will not have to work much, just help defend local space.
Speaking of space muds, I run one up at billkd.deaddogcafe.ch port 1234. I know what your all thinking, Miriani cloner. No, we're not a Miriani/Star Conquest cloner. Our MOO was built from the ground up to have a totally different space system than the rest, as well as some features that set it out from the rest. Some activities include ground debris salvaging, space debris salvaging, starship repair, website hacking, and more. As far as what I recommend for muds, Alter Aeon if your into that sort of thing. The Night is a really bad idea. The wizards go *way* overboard with the rollplay thing. They also seem to be the ones with the important jobs in the game. Unless your really, really into rollplay The Night is a bad idea. Miriani? That game has turned completely downhill. The players are very immature on that game, it just isn't as fun as it used to be from a player's standpoint.
Looking for something different than that W&W swords and sorcery thing. I at the moment am playing the If Mud. If you have heard of interactive fiction, you should've heard of IfMud. It's at ifmud.port4000.com:4000. You have to get your acount on the website. I'm IfMaster on there.
what's the website?
bill, i agree with you on the maturity aspect. people going after people just because they can, people insulting you cuz you're married to another woman, people going after you cuz you don't deserve a bc yada yada yada. i've been told this, someone hates my characters because i've played them all the same, he refuses to see that i've changed in the various time i've rerolled. but to me it still has it's good points. i like the activities in miriani better then sc. sc complicates things like woh. but that's just me.
as to other muds, i've heard of hell moo, been tempted to try it,
if you like buffy a friend of mine is on a buffy mud i'm gona ask her for the info for.
people say miriani has become a space themed hack and slash. not exactly though it's close. me, i rp constantly.
lol
oh and starfly... there is a use for ools. sex, lots and lots of sex! roflmao.
where would we be without sex.
sorta hard to have sex when the only female sleeps a lot, any way, I am excited, been told no one has made it to the core of mariani before, so keeping my fingers cross we make it.
Cool guys. I am currently playing IfMud, more like a chatting kinda mud, no real RP. It's cool if you like to talk to people and you like interactive fiction. it's at this link
Alter aeon is getting old, so I just created a character on MateriaMagica. I'm Bivotar on there. I'm using both Mushclient and VIPMud, VIP when I need to pull something from the output area and paste it into the edit box. If only mushclient had a separate area for your output, not like visuallly, but like VIPMud'ds output area is.
I am currently playing materia magica using mush client. i have played alter aeon as well. I am mindica over on MM so, feel free to send me a tell if you are on and want to chat or need help. I really like MM as you can hack and slash if you like or quest and mark if you don't feel like killing stuff.
Hey, does anybody know if there is an accessible mud client for the mac?
hmmm, I use mush and can grab output just fine with I need too, just virutualize your window, if you use jaws.
How do you virtuallize your window? I use mushclient as well.
if you're using jaws, just do control insert W.
Thanks. I found the connection info for new worlds, newworlds-rpg.org:4002.
Oh darn that's to create a word list!
If you're using Mushclient and you want to see the output window, just hit control tab. It'll bring up a notepad document with all the output in it. It's a touch clunky, but I got used to it pretty quickly.
I find it amusing that many of you who've posted here think Alter Aeon is complicated, as compared to Materia Magica. While Alter's got its drawbacks for sure, complexity is -not one of them. Allow me to give a few examples where MM is far far less forgiving, in particular:
1. In MM, you have to roll your stats, and you get 30 rolls before having to restart. This is a pain in the neck since stats -do really matter there. The best players are probably those who rerolled a few thousand times to get the absolute best setup and who, consequently, know the ins and outs of exactly which stat is useful.
2. In MM, you do have to multi-class, you just do it every sixty levels. Instead of having the freedom to switch your class order and all that jazz, you instead have to go and decide on a class path early on (or get advice on what to do later on from people who know better than you do). Certain races can't take certain jobs, which does make sense, but certain jobs don't go well with certain stat builds, and thus you really do have to be careful about exactly how you want to make your character.
3. While we're on that subject, MM does things like giving you more HP per level-up if your con is higher, or more MP if your int is higher. The amount of practices you get, which you use on training your skills and spells, are also impacted by stats like this, which means if you don't have an optimum character roll and good gear from day 1, and don't know what you're doing, you're going to miss out on some hp/mp/pracs.
4. Speaking of missing stuff, there are certain marks, in particular, which go away once you're beyond a certain level, and while it's usually not terribly difficult to do said mark by a given level, a few of them are fairly well-hidden, and if you don't ask about them or go digging on the net for guides, you'll never know.
5. Back to raw complexity for a moment, if I may: Materia Magica has a plethora of skills and spells which, quite frankly, puts AA's roster to shame. They have a religion system, a seafaring system and a whole lot of other things as well which make the game more complicated.
6. A small issue, but definitely worth mentioning for newbies. In AA, you never ever have to PVP if you don't want to. In MM, if you are unwary or unlucky, you can get attacked and killed by people many many times your own level...most notably I found that this occurred when the mayor of Rune, one of the cities you're apt to spend a lot of time in at earlier levels, decided to designate one or two well-travelled rooms in the city as PK. You can end up having some of your gear fragged if you don't die outright by being hit by lightning, fire, ice or acid by the wrong person at the wrong time...and I'm sorry, but a game which is so gentle for the first fifteen levels and then dumps you into that sort of environment is not, in my estimation, newbie-friendly. I say keep your PK areas well-designated, and -not in rooms that newbies are apt to try and zip through while, say, completing quests.
In a nutshell, MM is one of those games where you have to either be willing to be decent and not great on your first playthrough, or be willing to ask someone before your first character creation about optimum everything (stats, builds, gear, areas to fight in, all sorts of things). Alter Aeon, by contrast, is only a pain in the neck if you waste billions of exp dying...that's really its only drawback for a newbie, since your HP/MP/pracs and all that are not controlled by you when you level. Multi-classing on AA is really not that hard if you read the help files. As for being directionless once you clear the road to Pelham and empty the graveyard, try talking to people you meet...Vemarken is absolutely full of quests, and the areas around that town are teeming with stuff you can kill. I personally don't find any sort of directionlessness until you've gained about fifty or fifty-five levels, total (so your main class is about 20-22) and you're on Archais...and even then, you've reached a point where there's a lot you can kill and exp is plentiful.
Before I get flamed, I'd just like to note that I think MM is a great game in many ways. I'm not hating on it...I actually quite enjoy it. It's just that there's no contest, between MM and AA, on which is the more complex MUD, and it's NOT AA.
Well, I guess your... kinda... right. AA is kinda easier. Valhalla mud is another good one, valhalla.com:4242. Just wondering, Does anyone know of a Harry potter mud?
alter aeon is pretty good.
Hello everyone. I play batmud. www.bat.org
You need to turn text only mode on. which I think is set 24 on when you finally get into the game. But once it is on it stays on and gets rid of annoying map right in the tex descriptions of rooms.
I like batamud because basicly you can be whatever you want to be. I am a alchemist right now working on getting to a level so I can get to a skill I want. Then I am going to get one level in bard and then max out merchant guild.
I don't know all the fuss about alter aeon too or any of the muds that "are blind friendly" most muds are blind friendly if you just tweak a few settings. Aardwolf is ok but I got tired of the hack and slash. I don't like killing anything all day long. I have played on the ironrealms games and I liked them for a time but I didn't like the roleplay aspect and the worship system built in it really bothered me lots. But batmud. You can hack and slash you way up or build chests/ships/your own city. Basicly whatever you want to do. I always come back to batmud so now it is my mudding home. You can have one main character and one secondary. They can't be on at the same time. There are tons of races to choose from with their own stats and five backgrounds to choose from. The background you choose determines what guilds you can join. But you can join as many guilds as you want within that background if that is your desire. Usually it is wise to max out one guild first then pick another. You can max out two or three guilds if your careful. The guilds are well balanced really and the people are nice although you have a few people who need to be taught some manners but that happens on every mud. My name on there is adalee if you create a character and need some guidance tell to me.
I also like cleft of dementions, which is a videogame crossover mud. it features characters and locations from many classic nes and snes games such as punchout, mario, secret of mana, final fantasy, dragon warrior, robo warriar (bomber king), and even mega man x.
What is the Connection Info? How accessible is it?
I don't have the connection info right now, but it's pretty acceissible.
I like miriani, alter aeon and tnc.
what happened to the person taht plays batmud, tried to get in contact with said person on game, to find the player doesn't exist.
I heard about this long-running mud, not alter eon but another one where the only accessibility problem is during battle it just says "you hit him hard".
